I haven’t posted on my blog since September 29, 2008.
Today is December 16, 2008. It’s been almost three months since my last blog post. So, what’s new?
Politics
We have a new president, President-elect Barack Obama. I am so relieved that Americans made the right choice for president and we are all ready to have our very first Hawaiian president.
Senator Hillary Clinton has been tapped to be our next Secretary of Sate, which I think is wonderful. I’m still a little ticked that Barack didn’t choose her for his running-mate.
Proposition 8 passed, by the slimmest of margins, in California. Thanks to the Church of Latter-day Saints and their tens of millions of dollars that were poured into California from Utah. The California Supreme Court will be taking a look at the proposition and its constitutionality very soon, though.
Entertainment
Britney Spears released her real comeback album “Circus,” which was the #1 album in its first week of release, beating out Kanye West and Beyoncé. Her first single “Womanizer” becomes #1, and her newest single “Circus” is on its way to the top. And I can’t stop listening to her album.
Rosie O’Donnell’s variety show on NBC totally flopped. I watched the first five minutes and I completely understand why. I don’t think we’ll be seeing much of her again…
Kathy Griffin’s comedy album “For Your Consideration,” made just to be considered for a Grammy, has been nominated for a Grammy award for Best Comedy Album! Yesssss.
My Life
Just finished my first semester in college. One of the best experiences of my life, and the classes were a breeze — except for my stupid communications class where my extremely liberal professor tried to push his beliefs on us. I don’t think they were just coincidences that we watched several videos on war, religion, and sex.
I volunteered at a local polling place on election day. Met some wonderful people. Who knew people were still so friendly here in Orange?
I was hit by the “Twilight” bug after watching the movie. I’ve been reading the saga and it’s pretty amazing.
Hopefully this won’t be the last blog post this month. haha.
In California, there is a proposition, Proposition 8, on the November ballot that, if enough people vote ‘Yes,’ will ban same-sex marriage in California and will only recognize marriage between a man and woman. I personally believe that marriage is for any couple, gay or straight, that is in love. And now search engine giant Google has, for the first time, PUBLICLY stated that is opposed to Prop 8 on their official blog. They believe that
We should not eliminate anyone’s fundamental rights, whatever their sexuality, to marry the person they love.
I almost always have CNN turned on, and I just found out that Obama flat-out LIED on last night’s debate! He stated last night
Here’s what I can tell the American people: 95 percent of you will get a tax cut.
But according to CNN’s fact-checking group that was a lie! The fact is that only 80% of ALL Americans will receive a tax break, while the remaining 20% (the wealthiest Americans) will have their taxes raised.
It is true, though, that 95% of WORKING FAMILIES will get a tax cut, not 95% of ALL Americans. He simply didn’t say it right, but his tax plan will promise giving working families a break. -phew-
As I was watching the first presidential debate, the first forty or so minutes were mostly about the economy and their policies on spending and taxes. But towards the end, the senators started to focus on the topic of the debate, foreign policy. McCain seemed to hesitate on some questions, while Obama started off the debate really strong with a five-point plan on how to solve this economic crisis. I noticed how confident Obama was and how he calmly corrected McCain, becuase he really needed some correcting since he spun things in Obama’s record and policies. They both had strong points on how they would handle Russia, Iran, and even North Korea.
In my honest opinion, I thought that the debate was a draw, moslty becuase no one candidate had an extremely powerful point. This was their time to shine, but their performances were lackluster.
WaMu’s failure is the largest bank failure in United States history!
Just around 9 pm Eastern time, the U.S. Government seized Washington Mutual and sold $1.9 billion in assets to JPMorgan Chase. JPMorgan Chase also purchased Bear Stearns last March, and said it would sell $8 billion in stock to raise money.
If the above is all Greek to you (Disclaimer: I’m not an expert, just a college student who is interested in politics): WaMu, under control of the U.S. Government, sold off some the company to JPMorgan Chase for $1.9 billion. It’s pretty much an EPIC FAIL for WaMu, and our economy may be in trouble.
BUT if you have money in an account at WaMu, your money is 100% SAFE (it is FDIC insured). Even if you have investments in WaMu, your money is still SAFE.
This interview was horrible, not because of Katie Couric’s questions, but becuase of Sarah Palin’s answers.
How come she has done only a couple of one-on-one interviews with reporters? (Well, it’s obvious the GOP is afraid of her answers, and they should be, becuase, well… you did watch the video above, right?) Democratic VP Joe Biden, on the other hand, has done several one-on-one interviews and has answered numerous questions from reporters at rallies, meetings, etc.
How funny: John McCain has criticized Barack Obama for his so-called “celebrity status,” yet he has hired an ‘American Idol’ makeup artist to do his makeup for interviews, photos, etc. McCain paid the makeup artist $5,583.43 for her services! (source) Now who is the celebrity?
