Michael Phelps Cartoon
August 17, 2008Phelps’ Last Race was Golden
August 17, 2008[ WARNING: SPOILER ]
Michael Phelps got his 8th gold medal in Beijing last night, with help from his teammates Brendan Hansen, Jason Lezak and Aaron Peirso. He’s 8 for 8! He’s the new golden boy!
Phelps is the first Olympic athlete to win eight gold medals in the same Olympic games. Phelps broke Mark Spitz’s record of seven gold medals when Spitz won them in the 1972 Olympic games in Munich, Germany.
The US swim team got a world-record time of 3 minutes, 29.34 seconds, Phelps’ 7th world record! Way to go, Michael and team USA for winning gold in this last relay!
Phelps’ Last Race Live for Everyone?
August 14, 2008NBC Universal is considering broadcasting Michael Phelps’ last race this Saturday to all time zones across the country. Usually, “live” broadcasts on NBC are only live for the East coast, leaving the rest of the time zones with taped broadcasts still bearing the “live” bug on the top right of the screen. (Some bloggers have even been criticizing NBC for not removing the “live” bug from taped broadcasts.) But for Phelps’ potential eighth gold medal, NBC would like to broadcast the race live to all time zones, from the eastern time zone to the pacific time zone, everyone will get the same live broadcast.
I think that’s pretty cool, becuase I live on the west coast and I have always hated getting fake “live” programs. Plus, this last race would be amazing if Phelps won his eighth gold medal at the 2008 Olympic games.

US Media Putting US on Top
August 14, 2008
The Three Medals From Beijing
During these Olympic games, the media all over the world has their eyes on China: the people, the culture, and the Olympic athletes. Currently, China has 35 medals overall, 22 of those being gold. The United Sates has 34 medals total, but only 10 of those are gold. What’s the big deal, you ask? Well, American media companies, like NBC and Sports Illustrated, were putting the US on top in medal count, even though traditionally the country with the MOST GOLD medals gets the top spot, NOT the country with the highest medal total. While NBC put the US on top no matter what, foreign media companies follow tradition and put China on top, only because it has the most Gold Medals.
Michael Phelps Goes for Gold
August 13, 2008Incredible! US Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps has won his tenth and eleventh gold medal in Beijing yesterday! That gives him more gold medals than any Olympian in the history of the games! His first medal yesterday was for the 200-meter butterfly and his second was for swimming in the first leg of the 4×200 freestyle relay. British swimmer Simon Burnett said
I think I’ve figured out Michael Phelps. He’s not from another planet. He’s from the future. His father made him and made a time machine. Sixty years from now he is an average swimmer, but he has come back here to mop up.
Phelps is 5 for 5 so far, and he still has more finals this week! Let’s hope he goes home with all of the gold!
